BOA FIT SYSTEM: THE HISTORY.
.
In 2001, Boa Technology founder Gary Hammerslag started with one big idea: To replace traditional shoelaces in snowboard boots with a faster, more convenient method of lacing up. The innovative platform that resulted, known as The Boa System, consists of expertly configured dials, laces, and guides to ensure a precision fit every time. Today, Boa is the leading expert in fit optimization with over 83 million closure and adjustment solutions in products across golf, athletic, snow sports, outdoor, cycling, utility, and medical.
Boa founder Gary Hammerslag started with one big idea to replace traditional shoelaces in snowboard boots with a faster, more convenient method of lacing up. In 2001, the Boa Fit System was introduced to the world with our first partners, K2 and Vans. Since then Boa has found a home with many partners across a number of different industries. After 17 years out on the slopes, the company now boasts of products featured in over 83 millions of snowboard boots on mountains around the world. They fine tune fit in the shoes of the world’s best cyclists. They’re in work boots that work 60 hours a week and in medical equipment that works 24/7.
HOW IT WORKS: While the Boa Fit System is custom built for each unique product and use case, they all contain three integral parts: a micro-adjustable dial, super-strong lightweight laces, and low friction lace guides. Each configuration is engineered to optimize fit and provide precision, adaptability, and control. As demonstrated at the initial video, the aim of all the BOA experts is beng able to deliver instant, single-handed fine tuning as precise as 1mm, that you can easily adjust for comfort or a more targeted performance without ever losing focus. And once dialed in, the Boa Fit System stays that way. At the mountain, on the course, or on the job, they strive to deliver a secure fit that makes it easy to get your gear on and off quickly no matter the conditions.
- BOA LACES: The workhorse of the Boa Fit System, our laces routinely tolerate the toughest tests.
Lightweight, super-strong laces, expertly configured for comfort and performance. - BOA GUIDES: Our lace guides replace traditional eyelets, and the deficiencies that come with them.
We designed our lace guides to optimize the Boa Fit System by minimizing friction and improving fit in a way that wasn’t possible before. - BOA DIALS: Tuned and tested to the highest standards, Boa dials provide the ultimate fit experience so you can focus on what matters most.Varying in size, design, and interface, the dial fine tunes fit with precision, allows for quick release, and never settles on performance.
THE FUTURE OUTLOOK: Originating as a business-to-business model, Boa has grown with the support of its global brand partners It now provides more emphasis on brand awareness, consumer marketing and education, and the promotion of category-specific features and benefits of Boa-powered products. To reflect the expanded growth, refined innovations, and continued partnerships. Boa launched a new corporate branding and visual identity, releasing globally in February 2017. The entirely new website, TheBoaSystem.com, will focus on educating consumers about Boa, including the varying configurations across products and categories with Boa brand partners, as well as provide a platform to communicate new innovations, company news, and events. Additionally, as the company continues to stand behind The Boa Guarantee, customers can easily request replacement parts directly from the website. The latest fairs have seen new developments ranging from snowboarding to alpinism, cycling or trail running with partners such as New Balance, Saucony, Dachstein, Viking, Adidas, La Sportiva, etc… as you may see in the gallery below.

Three members of our team took on the Adidas Terrex Boa to race at the Infinite Trail World Championships held in Austria last weekend. Despite the organizers cancellation of the main stage, with them running three relays over 124km, they still were able to put this latest shoes to the test. Among the competing 333 teams from all over the world, they took 5th place in the opening stage, then went on to keep running on their own as the official main stage was cancelled.
