Iker Karrera: Haute Route Chamonix Zermatt new skyrunning record at 21h20m. Bravo!

Iker Karrera  is another relevant name among the trailrunners from Spain. Just as his Salomon Running team Miguel Heras and Nerea Martínez he has come to shine particularly at ultra trails. This 2012 he was already vicotrious at the TNF Philippines and Lavaredo Ultra Trail  . He then went on to set this superb record in the High Route from Chamonix  to Zermatt. As Iker moves on towards the upcoming Ultra Trail Mont Blanc, we are happy to share this 3 videos that truly speak for themselves on  his achievement.

IKER CARRERA ARAMBURU: CHAMONIX -ZERMAT 21H20M RECORD VIDEOS

Background: The High Route was first completed as a trekking dare back in 1861 by members of the Alpine Club. It starts at french iconic village  Chamonix and traverses up to 15 glaciers to end up at the swiss town of Zermatt, home of the Matterhorn.   The route usually takes up to 12 days of walking (or 7 days o mountain skiing) to cover the 180. While the term haute route has become somewhat genericized for any of the many multi-day, hut-to-hut alpine tours, the “Chamonix-Zermatt Haute Route” remains the original. The ski mountaneering record stands at 18h50m.
