JOMA NEW OFFICIAL TECHNICAL SPONSOR

The renowned Spanish sports brand Joma has been announced as the new official technical sponsor of the 360º The Challenge Gran Canaria for its 2024 edition. This partnership brings a significant boost to the self-sufficiency mountain race, with Joma providing high-quality apparel and footwear for runners, staff, and volunteers. This collaboration marks a key step in the race’s growth, highlighting its increasing prominence in the international trail running scene.

Arista Eventos, the event organizer, confirmed the partnership in an agreement with Joma, further solidifying the race’s international status. The 360º The Challenge Gran Canaria, one of the toughest trail running races in the world, in this moment there are already more than 100 runners registered from 14 different countries in this ninth edition, which kicks off on November 13. The race spans an unmarked route of 258 kilometers with 12,669 meters of positive elevation, crossing various municipalities of Gran Canaria. Participants will have 101 hours to complete the grueling course. Last year, only 25 of the 84 runners finished, showcasing the immense difficulty and prestige of this race.

Joma and trail running

With its origins in Toledo, Joma has become a globally recognized brand with a presence in over 134 countries. Known for its durable and high-performance sports products, Joma’s involvement in trail running is a natural extension of its influence across multiple sports disciplines. The brand has made strides in running, particularly in trail running, with professional athletes achieving significant results in major events.

Joma’s sponsorship of the 360º The Challenge Gran Canaria is a testament to its ongoing commitment to trail running, furthering its reputation as a leader in this sector. In last year’s edition of Transgrancanaria, also organized by Arista Eventos, several Joma athletes achieved impressive results. Notably, Gemma Arenas and Inés Astrain secured 4th and 5th place in the women’s 46-kilometer marathon. In the men’s category, Miguel Heras and Ionel Monole finished 2nd and 3rd in the Classic event, while Robert Pkemoi won the Marathon, with Tiago Vieira taking third.

Over the years, the Transgrancanaria 360 has crowned champions from across the globe, including renowned athletes like the Italians Luca Papi, Marco Gubert and Peter Kienzl; the French Claire Bannwarth and the Romanian Claudiu Beletoiu; as well as the Spanish Esther Hernández and the Italians Annemarie Gross and Marta Poretti.

In the last edition, held between November 16th and 19th of the preceding year, Claudiu Beletoiu of Romania emerged victorious. While French contender Claire Bannwarth clinched the win in the women’s category. José Bordón, hailing from the Canary Islands, secured third place. Out of the total registrants, 59 participants opted out of the race, leaving just 25 determined runners who completed the grueling course successfully.

With only a hundred places available, aspiring participants are encouraged to act fast and secure their spot on the starting line. Residents of the Canary Islands can enjoy a special 20% discount, and the option for installment payments is also available. Additionally, the organization rewards loyal finishers with a discount of 30 euros per edition completed, up to a maximum of four editions.
