RESULTS.

In its 6th edition, the Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB welcomed an unprecedented 3,000 runners representing over 65 nationalities, solidifying its status as a premier global event. Drawing participants from across the globe, as well as local Welsh trail running enthusiasts.

Commencing amidst clear blue skies from the iconic National Slate Museum in Llanberis, runners went across the 4 distances, and the challenging terrain of Yr Wyddfa and its neighboring peaks, traversing mountain ridges. This year, the event expanded to include a Kids race, inviting young athletes aged 3 to 16 to partake in the festivities alongside their families.

Hayden Arrowsmith, UTMB UK Event Director, remarked on the technicality and allure of the races. “The Ultra-Trail Snowdonia by UTMB races are technical and pretty special. For runners who come from abroad, they’re getting a real taste of what the UK mountain trail running scene is like. Most of the runners used poles, and they were actually on their hands and feet trying to get over some of the more challenging sections. With a sunny and bright weather, the views from the top of the mountains were fantastic. But the weather was also the main challenge because it’s very different to what people have trained in.”

He added: “We are really grateful for the 300 volunteers we have this weekend helping put on the show. Also, the support of the local communities to allow this event to take place, especially at Eryri National ParkGwynedd Council, Common Council and all of the local residents that we meet on our way round.”

ULTRA TRAIL SNOWDONIA UTS 100M

UTS 100M is the ultimate grand-tour of Eryri/Snowdonia. It really is: ‘Beautiful beyond belief. Savage beyond reason’. Featuring 168km and 9,500M+, the UTS 100M race kicked off the event weekend on Friday. In a race with 260 runners, Mark Darbyshire emerged triumphant, seizing redemption after last year’s disappointment with a dominant performance. Leading the race virtually from start to finish, Darbyshire crossed the finish line on home turf, clocking an impressive time of 23:41:13, the course record by an astounding 10 minutes.

Joining Darbyshire on the podium were fellow Brit Andy Berry and Australian runner Michael Dunstan. Berry secured the second spot with a commendable finish time of 25:18:51, while Dunstan rounded off the men’s podium, crossing the line in  25:45:24.

Mark Darbyshire said: “It was hot, but I’d rather it’s like that than rain in cold winters. And I was trying to play this year, telling myself it’s my day with swings and roundabouts. I basically just thought I’d got a bit slower this year than I did last year, showing a little bit of patience. And I did manage to.”

In the women’s race, Rachel Fawcett took the Women’s 100M tape in a time of 34:10:57 followed by great performances from second lady Maria Pijoan Gall finishing in 39:47:42 and Corine Kagerer and Nikki Arthur in joint third with a time of 41:12:05.

It was a very hard and tough race but one of the best races I ever did in my life. After 50km, I pushed a little bit harder and Philipp followed me. We continued to push each other to the limit and in the end, we decided to finish this race together because we are very good friends. This is the family spirit!”
