THE CANYONS ENDURANCE RUNS BY UTMB® 2024. PREVIEW AND FAVORITES. Our UTMB 2024 WORLD SERIES, this time travels to Auburn, birthplace of mountain ultras, located in the northern California foothills of the Sierra Nevada range.

The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB is the 2024 UTMB World Series Americas Major. This race is also a qualifier for the UTMB World Series Finals and the Western States Endurance Run. In addition, the Canyons 100K distance is a Western States 100 Golden Ticket race in which the top two female and male finishers earn direct entry to the Western States 100

The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and this year’s festivities promise to be bigger and better than ever. With over 2,500 runners gearing up to explore the stunning landscapes of the region, from the majestic Sierra Nevada foothills to stretches of the iconic Western States Trail.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, an action-packed schedule awaits participants, with highlights including a ‘Race Weekend party’ for friends and family, inspiring community events, and enjoyable fun runs tailored for children.

Chaz Seya, Founder and Race Director of the Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to welcome runners from 70 countries to this event, poised to experience the enchantment of the Canyons in spring. From breathtaking views of the Sierra Nevada to miles of exhilarating singletrack along the Western States Trail, and the vibrant hues of wildflowers adorning green hillsides, every step promises to be a testament to the beauty of nature. We eagerly anticipate sharing this extraordinary journey and applauding each runner’s remarkable dedication along the way.

We are going to have some thrilling showdowns at the Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB as top elite runners Zachary Garner (USA, UTMB Index 853) and Canyon Woodward (USA, UTMB Index 812) gear up to battle it out in the intense 100M race. Woodward, aiming to improve on his third-place finish from 2023, faces tough competition after losing the lead at 106 km. Meanwhile, Elena Horton (USA, UTMB Index 705), fresh off a victory at Black Canyons Ultras 50K, aims to carry her winning momentum into the Women’s Elite race.

The 100K race boasts a star-studded lineup, including 2022 Dacia UTMB® Mont-Blanc winner Katie Schide (USA, UTMB Index 801) and Jazmine Lowther (CAN, UTMB Index 770), looking to reclaim her 2022 title. Adam Peterman (USA, UTMB Index 931), winner of the 2022 Canyons 100K and 2022 Western States, faces fierce competition, including Petter Engdahl (SWE, UTMB Index 925), the 2022 CCC winner.

In the 50K race, the competition remains fierce with top-ranked athletes like Dani Moreno (USA, UTMB Index 784), Jennifer Lichter (USA, UTMB Index 773), and Tabor Hemming (USA, UTMB Index 738) in the Women’s category. Keep an eye on Molly Seidel (USA, UTMB Index 640), Tokyo Olympic Marathon bronze medallist, making her mark. On the Men’s side, defending champion Hayden Hawks (USA, UTMB Index 912) faces stiff competition from Cole Watson (USA, UTMB Index 881), the 2023 100K champion, and other world-class competitors like Eli Hemming (USA, UTMB Index 912) and Daniel Jones (NZL, UTMB Index 905).

THE CANYONS ENDURANCE RUNS BY UTMB® 100M

The new 100 mile route now starts at China Wall and finishes in downtown Auburn with approximately 17,000’ of vertical gain along the Western States Trail and other iconic trails.

THE CANYONS ENDURANCE RUNS BY UTMB® 100K

Experience some of the most scenic and iconic landmarks of the Western States Trail as you cover up to 10,500’ of elevation gain along the North Fork of the American River. This course begins at China Wall and ends in downtown Auburn.

 

THE CANYONS ENDURANCE RUNS BY UTMB® 50K

The Canyons 50k will start and finish in downtown Auburn, from Robie point to Driver’s Flat and return along the Foresthill Divide Loop with a fast-rolling course that will capture the spirit and origins of trail running in the Sierras. Elevation Gain 5600 FT+

 

THE CANYONS ENDURANCE RUNS BY UTMB® 50K

Enjoy the fast climbs and descents of Canyons 25k with views of the American River Canyon and enjoy the magic of Auburn Start-Finish line celebration. The Canyons 25k will start and finish in historic downtown Auburn. The course will follow the Western States Trail to No Hands bridge and continue to the top of Clementine. From there a 2-mile downhill back to the confluence of the American River and a quick steep climb to Robie Point and through the streets of downtown Auburn and the cheering crowds and finish line festival.

 

THE CANYONS ENDURANCE RUNS BY UTMB Dual Qualifier

The Canyons Endurance Runs by UTMB holds a unique distinction as the sole Major event in North America. As part of the UTMB World Series Major, it offers a coveted opportunity for runners to secure direct entry to the UTMB World Series Finals in 2025. The top ten men and women in the 100M, 100K, and 50K categories earn this privilege, along with age-category winners and double Running Stones for all finishers.

Notably, the 100K race serves as a crucial 2024 HOKA Golden Ticket event for the prestigious Western States™ 100 Endurance Run, further elevating its significance and drawing an exceptional field of participants.
