UTMB MONT BLANC 2024:

RECORD-BREAKING REGISTRATIONS.

Demand for registrations continues to exceed expectations and venue capacity this year, not only for the UTMB Series Finals but also for other races. Comparisons with the previous year unmistakably show an increase in registrations, more Running Stones, increased female participation, elite runners with impressive UTMB Index scores, and more.

To begin, registrations for the UTMB World Series Finals – UTMB, CCC, and OCC – have increased by 34% compared to 2023, with over six months remaining until the event kicks off. The demand has significantly surpassed maximum capacity, with a 30% increase in pre-registrations for UTMB (7,200 pre-registrants), a 22% rise for CCC (5,400 pre-registrants), and a remarkable 52% growth for OCC (6,500 pre-registrants). Despite this surge in demand, the number of slots remains constant, emphasizing a commitment to environmental preservation and race quality.

Additionally, the Solidarity Bib initiative was a resounding success this year, selling out 260 bibs for UTMB, CCC, and OCC in less than 24 hours. This overwhelming support highlights the extraordinary commitment of the running community, benefiting 14 active associations in areas such as solidarity, health, inclusion, and the environment.

RUNNING STONES ON THE RISE

To enter the lottery, runners must possess at least 1 Running Stone and a valid UTMB Index in the required category. Running Stones are earned by successfully completing races in the UTMB World Series circuit, ranging from 1 to 4 in regular events and 2 to 8 in the Majors.

This year, the average number of Running Stones for registered runners is 4.1, compared to 3.9 last year. On average, pre-registrants for UTMB 2024 possess 5.4 Running Stones, CCC participants have 4 Running Stones, and OCC contenders hold 2.8 Running Stones.

For randomly selected runners in 2024, the average number of Running Stones is 5.3, up from 4.9 in the previous year. The lottery is designed to enhance selection chances with an increasing number of accumulated Running Stones. The average Running Stones for lucky winners are 6.8 for UTMB, 4.8 for CCC, and 3.7 for OCC, offering a chance of selection regardless of the number of accumulated Running Stones.

INCREASED FEMALE PARTICIPATION

Female participation has also increased, with a 20% representation, signaling positive developments and diversification in the sport. There is a 13% increase in UTMB, 21% in CCC, and 30% in OCC. This rise underscores the growing and significant role of women in the trail running scene, supported by a forward-looking pregnancy policy launched in 2023.

INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION WITH STRONG EUROPEAN REPRESENTATION

Of the pre-registrants, 40% are French, and 75% are European, emphasizing the continued strong European presence. However, there are representatives from 118 different nationalities. Pre-registrations from American runners for the finals have increased by 56% compared to 2023, reflecting the growing interest in the event beyond European borders.

HIGH-LEVEL ELITES

The upcoming edition of the competition already boasts confirmation from 487 elite runners, including 78 Top Elites, ensuring a world-class trail running spectacle.

The competition level is expected to be exceptionally high, with 15 men and 15 women registered so far, each with a UTMB Index surpassing 908 and 770, respectively. Some have even exceeded the impressive score of 800. This concentration of high-caliber talent promises an exciting and internationally appealing race.

ALL RACES ATTRACT

Not only are the UTMB World Series Finals breaking records, but this year’s other races at UTMB Mont-Blanc 2024 are also drawing significant attention.

This may be related to the introduction this year of Running Stones in all these races. Starting from the 2024 edition, running the TDS will earn 4 Running Stones, while participating in the MCC will yield 2. Additionally, ETC and YCC Junior runners will receive 1 Running Stone.

MCC, a 40 km race through Switzerland and France reserved for volunteers, local residents, and sponsors, sold out in just 4 hours. The ETC, with registrations exhausted in a week, demonstrates its growing appeal. This 15-kilometer, 1,200-meter elevation race offers a captivating challenge, combining stunning alpine scenery with an intense trail experience in the heart of the Italian Alps.

Almost full, the TDS stands out for its wild and technical course that links the Aosta Valley with Savoy, attracting trail runners seeking exceptional landscapes and technical challenges. The YCC provides a unique challenge for young participants born between 2005 and 2010, offering two days of exciting competitions in Courmayeur and Chamonix.
