ISMF WORLD CUP BOÍ TAULL 2024: MIXED RELAY.
VICTORY FOR ALBA DE SILVESTRO AND MICHELE BOSCACCI.
Another sunny morning welcomed the athletes competing on the Mixed Relay World Cup. The race kicked off with Johanna Hiemer of Austria surprising more experienced relay athletes like Emily Harrop (France), Ana Alonso (Spain), Marianna Jagercikova (Slovakia), or Alba de Silvestro (Italy).
However, Emily Harrop took control during the second ascent, managing to tag her teammate Baptiste Hellmenreich in the lead.
The first men’s leg showcased a remarkable performance by Oriol Cardona (Spain), closing the gap with the leaders, seconds ahead of Paul Verbnjak (AUT) while Michele Boscacci (ITA) and Hellmenreich battled for the first two spots
The intense competition continued into the second leg, with Boscacci making a final push during the last ascent to secure the lead. Meanwhile, Ellmenreich, Cardona, and Verbnjak fiercely contested the remaining podium spots.
Boscacci crossed the finish line first, securing victory for Team Italy. Team Spain, showcasing a superb transition just meters before the finish, claimed the silver medal. France held onto the bronze, maintaining their position ahead of Team Austria. Team Switzerland, the youngest in the competition with both teammates in the U23 category, finished in fifth place.
“It was a big surprise for us this result. This is our first relay together, but we are really happy about the results. We have come from 11th place here at the world championships last year to win here. Today I felt better, more rested, and that helped a lot”, said De Silvestro after crossing the finish line.
