LESS THAN 200 DAYS.
In its ninth edition, the Grossglockner Ultra Trail (GGUT), scheduled from July 25 to 28 across Kaprun-Zell am See, Uttendorf/Gletscherwelt Weißsee, and Kals am Großglockner, is poised to set new records.
The current registration trends are highly encouraging, with participants hailing from over 30 nations, including a substantial representation from the UK, Finland, Greece, and an extensive delegation from Israel. Elite runners are also already registered, athletes with an International Trail Running Association (ITRA) score of 800 or more.

FAVOURITES
Richard Lockwood from Seattle (ITRA 868) had heard about the GGUT at a competition in Thailand, looked into the race in the Alps and decided he wanted to take part. “When I started to find out about the event, I was immediately hooked: The terrain looks fantastic! It will be my first time running in Austria and I’m very excited to see some extreme mountainous terrain and meet lots of amazing mountain athletes to share the experience with.”
Another elite runner is the Italian Carlo Salvetti from Bergamo (ITRA 834), who, like the American, is aiming for a podium place at the GGUT110.
The organisers can therefore announce that “the heat is on”. It can be assumed that the local elite will also line up at the starting line for the various GGUT distances. Jakob Herrmann from Salzburg still has an open business with the event after his “did not finish” last year, Gerald “Sancho” Fister from Carinthia could be there, and Florian Grasel from Lower Austria may also be back in contention for one of the top places after a two-year absence.
Hubert Resch CEO of the Organisation
“We are very pleased with how the registrations are currently developing – everyone who comes to us and places their trust in us is a motivation and incentive for us in our daily work,” says the CEO of Organisation Hubert Resch.
However, the Grossglockner Ultra Trail is not only making a name for itself these days due to the expected high-calibre international field, but also due to the fact that an enquiry has been received from Far East. The largest running online-platform from China is interested in a live stream of the event. “This is a clear sign that our races are increasingly gaining an international profile,” comments Resch on this positive development

GROSSGLOCKNER ULTRA-TRAIL
RACES
GROSSGLOCKNER ULTRA-TRAIL® (GGUT 110)
One of the hardest ultra trails. Around Großglockner – the highest peak in Austria.
Distance: 110 km
Climb: 6.500 m
Grossglockner ULTRA-TRAIL® (GGUT 110) mainly follows the trails of the so called “Glocknerrunde” around Austria’s highest mountain, the Großglockner (3,798 m). Through the scenic landscape of the National Park Hohe Tauern, the race crosses 3 provinces, 7 valleys, 6 municipalities, runners cross the Alps twice, running along 14 glaciers, surrounded by around 300 mountains higher than 3.000m. Start and Finish is in Kaprun (Maiskogelparkplatz).
Through the most scenic parts of the Glockner region.
Distance: 84 km
Cimb: 5.000 m
OTT 80 is a very challenging trail run with mostly high alpine trail running. Not only because of the total climb of the race (5,000 m), 3 passes higher than 2,500 m, but also with regard to long very technical trails. The high average altitude in more than 2/3 of the distance means an additional challenge
The classic race along the Grossglockner.
Distance: 57 km
Climb: 3.500 m
GGT 55 is probaly the most runable race at GGUT. However it still means a challenging track with mostly high alpine trail running. The average high elevation in the first half of the track means an additional challenge. With 3,500 positive and 4,000 negative vertical meters and often technically very difficult terrain, the race is a challenge for every trail runner.
Entrance into the world of GGUT.
Distance: 37 km
Climb: 1.500 m
GWT 35 offers a start into high-alpine trail running. However, with 1,500 m climb ascent and often technically very difficult terrain is still no walk. The terrain is difficult and the alpine environment means a challenge for every participant.
KAPRUN SCENIC TRAIL KST 15
To the most scenic views around the Kaprun valley.
Distance: 16 km
Climb: 1,000m
KST 15 provides for a good entry introduction to alpine trail running, but should not be underestimated with its 1,000 positive meters in climb and descent. 90% of the KST leads over well-maintained hiking trails and is therefore technically not particularly difficult and quite feasible for runners with some mountain experience.
MINI GGUT
Distance: 1 km & 3,1 km
Climb: 20 m & 120 m
