TRANSGRANCANARIA CLASSIC 128 KM: VICTORIES FOR COURTNEY DAUWALTER AND ANDREU SIMÓN Our TRANSGRANCANARIA section continues today with the updates from Gran Canaria and now is the time of the CLASSIC distance and its 128 km and 7000 meters of elevation gain.

The Transgrancanaria Classic 2023 already knows its two brand new winners: Courtney Dauwalter and Andreu Simón. The North American runner fulfilled all the forecasts and prevailed with solvency in her category, signing a seventh place in the absolute general classification at the finish line, an unprecedented mark in the Gran Canaria event. In addition, Dauwalter pulverized the clock at the finish line, lowering the fifteen-hour race time (14:40:39).

TRANSGRANCANARIA CLASSIC 128 KM:
VICTORIES FOR COURTNEY DAUWALTER AND ANDREU SIMÓN

The Transgrancanaria trail party will have its climax next Friday, February 24, at 11:59 p.m. on Las Canteras beach with the Classic modality.

More than 600 runners will face the 128 kilometers and 7,000 meters of positive elevation gain this year to cross the Island from north to south to Maspalomas. The American Courtney Dauwalter, the best ultra-distance runner in the world, will be at the starting line along with other names such as Pau Capell or Claudia Tremps.

TRANSGRANCANARIA 2023 CLASSIC 128KM: THE RACE

The Transgrancanaria Classic, which started at midnight on Friday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, covers the island from north to south over 128 kilometers, with 7,000 meters of positive elevation gain. In addition, it is a scoring test for the Spartan Trail World Championship circuit.

MEN’S RACE

The absolute winner of the Transgrancanaria Classic was Andreu Simón with a spectacular finishing time of 13 hours, 39 minutes and 33 seconds. With this victory, the Catalan climbs for the third time in his career to the top of the drawer of a race in Transgrancanaria, after his two victories in the Marathon modality of 2020 and 2021.

Simón led the test for an important part of his route to cross the finish line of Parque Sur alone, with a five-minute advantage over the Portuguese Miguel Arsénio (13:44:37), second classified. The North American Tyler Green climbed to the third step of the podium of this Transgrancanaria Classic (14:06:46).

At the closing of this note, the two runners who will accompany Dauwalter on the women’s podium had not yet reached the finish line. Provisionally, Canadian Jazmine Lowther and Catalan Claudia Tremps occupied second and third places.
