HOKA SPEEDGOAT 5: THE EVOLUTION OF A CLASSIC INTO A BEAST. OurTRAIL SHOES section bring us today a deeper technical analysis of the new HOKA Speedgoat 5. As you might remenber we presented you the HOKA 2022 collection a couple of days ago, and with this article we start a series where we will analyze more in deep the new HOKA Speedgoat 5, the HOKA Tecton X and the HOKA Carbon X 3.

This HOKA Speedgoat 5 will come  with a price of 150€, 294 g and a drop of 4 mm for a height of 33 mm in the back and 29 in the front.

HOKA ONE ONE 2022

This new collection of HOKA One One for 2022 arrives with a new trail shoe, the Tecton X, which for the first time mounts two carbon plates, renews the Speedgoat 5, “slims” the Carbon X 3 and combines the catalog of shoes with the Kawana and the Mach Supersonic.

Also, we see how the collection has focused on lightening materials and getting shoes just as cushioned and reactive but with a few grams less weight.

The Speedgoat saga continues to grow and for 2022 it already brings us its version number 5 of the classics, which years ago were baptized with the nickname of the iconic and first runner sponsored by HOKA: Karl “Speedgoat” Meltzer.

Karl “Speedgoat”, the first HOKA ONE ONE sponsored racer who also holds the record for winning the most 100-mile races was one of the first to get involved in the development of the long-ago first version of these Speedgoats.

Closer in time, we have the “cowboy” Jim Wamsley who has also been wearing Speedgoats in recent times as his flagship shoe, in his case the Speedgoat EVO.

Well, this Speedgoat 5 is renewed, reducing the weight by 21 grams compared to the Speedgoat 4 and gaining 1 mm in height with the ground.

It is a shoe designed for daily training, but that can perform very well in races, especially in ultras and even better if they are technical.

The proven durability of the Vibram Megagrip outsole in combination with the CMEVA compound in the midsole make it a reactive shoe that at the same time provides a lot of information on the ground, making them a lot of fun to wear, while also providing security.

UPPER

Jacquard Engineered Mesh – this recycled, vegan yarn mesh provides a secure lock to the foot preventing you from guiding technical curves and descents the foot “dances” inside the shoe.

Easy On-Off: The extended heel pull tab is designed for comfort.

Cruelty-Free: Boasting a vegan upper, the Speedgoat is animal-approved.

Breathable: Dynamic sandwich mesh upper enhances breathability.

Environmentally-friendly: The upper is constructed from a double jacquard recycled content engineered mesh and accompanied by recycled polyester laces.

MIDSOLE

It is the CMEVA compound, equal to the EVA foam mounted by the current Speedgoat 4. Why change a winning team, when you have already reduced weight.

Provides an unmatched combination of high performance cushioning, lower heel drop offset, with an inherently stable ride.

The late stage meta-rockers are placed in front of the metatarsal heads which provides a more stable base of forefoot support.

SOLE

These Speedgoat 5 mount a Vibram MegaGrip sole with Traction Lugs technology and 5mm studs that promise to improve traction by 20%.

The new Speedgoat 5 is a training/competition shoe which offers the perfect combination between weight 291 g., comfort and durability all of them provided by the midsole and Vibram Megagrip sole.

Moreover, this new version applies new technologies in the upper construction, like the vegan mesh which apart from being animal friendly, promises a better fit on the front “box”.

All on all, a very recommendable shoe for those who are into the HOKA world, and even for new comers as the drop is acceptable, 5 mm and the stability offered by the entire chassis will make it a very pleasant shoe to run with.
