100 MILES USA CHAMPIONSHIPS: GOLD FOR ZACH BITTER AND STEFANI FILPPIN.

The ultrarunning female community in USA continues to accumulate new sucess, every week. Last 14APR we informed you here how Des Linden broke the 50 km world record in 2h59.54. After that, we just saw this morning how three women were getting into the top5 of the 100-mile national championship, whose overall champion was a brilliant Zach Bitter at 12h52m.

100 MILES USA: THE FAVOURITES

Zach, who started as a unique male favorite based on his recent good form together with his spectacular world record in th e of distance: 11h18m19s signed in 2019.

Yesterday, at the start of the 100-mile U.S. National Championships, the women’s list showed a great level with up to four women at world elite level: Camille Herron, Stefani Flippin, Micah Morgan and Marisa Lizak. Among them, as was the case in the masculine, Camille left as a favorite based on her current world record of 12H42M40s at Tunnel Hill 2017. However, this year she suffered injuries and DNFs such as that of the 2021 assault on the 48h world record where she was surpassed by Marisa Lizak, a rival here too.

100 MILLES ULTRARUNNING USA: JACKPOT ULTRA RUNNING.

The race was developed within the ninth edition of the Jackpot Ultra Running Festival as its venue. It’s an ultra  event in the heart of Nevada, just minutes from the heart of Las Vegas, at one of the newest and largest theme parks in southern Nevada.

The route is located between a desert landscape and a bird sanctuary lake. The lake is surrounded by a huge grassy area. The jackpot-approved route consists of a 4km/D+24m horseshoe circuit. The altitude of the terrain is 579m with a typical temperature that fluctuates these days. The route to follow consists of 45% crushed gravel trails, 45% wide asphalt, 5% grass and only 5% hard concrete.

The time limit for popular runners were 31 hours, a very friendly brand superior to even the 30h demanding ultra alpines such as the Leadville 100 Miles with +5,500m located at 3,100m altitude in Colorado. In short, we were facing a good path to run fast, but not so much as to think of world records.

100 MILES USA CHAMPIONSHIPS: THREE WOMEN IN TOP5.

As we can see in the top 10 final of the national championship, Zach Bitter’s overall victory has been wide, winning with 12h42m. He led with authority and won without giving any magician to the surprise. He won with no less than 1h20 advantage to the second-placed Jacob Jackson with 14h12m.

It is striking, of course, that up to three women have come after them to complete the top5. The female podium consisted of Stefanie Flippin at 14h35m, Camille Herron at 14h42m and Micah Morgan at 14h44m. As you can see from the tight timing between them, all three of left us a race of great competition and level. Patrick Reagan in sixth overall position was the third man to cross the finish line, with a mark of 14h51m.
