Mizuno Wave Daichi 6: Great step forward, for a very versatile trailrunning shoe. Our TRAIL RUNNING GEAR section presents the most versatile shoe in the Japanese house. He arrives at this sixth version greatly improved, maintaining his vocation to run through almost all kinds of terrains, for a debutante-medium public.

It arrives with a 140€, a weight of 305 grams, grams, drop 10mm, ground height 18-28mm, plus a slightly oversized sole of 9cm on the front and 11cm at the back. Almost 40 grams lighter and with 2mm less drop.

The Daichi are located in the Mizuno catalogue between two of the brand’s main bets for 2021, the Mizuno Wave Mujin 6 with maximum cushioning and protection, and the Mizuno Wave Hayate 5 aimed at faster and lighter runners. Meanwhile, the Mizuno Wave Daichi assumes the role of being the most versatile shoe in the house.

As with his Asics compatriots, Mizuno is a Japanese brand steeped in tradition. Hence, both houses remain true to even a more “classic” concept of mountain racing shoes than European and American houses. In this way, Mizuno continues to stand out for having solid and reliable trail shoes. They are neither the lightest nor the most innovative to see them with many elites runners, but in their own business, in the face of the popular, they almost always work wonders without attracting attention.

Perhaps that’s why runners who choose Mizuno tend to be quite loyal to them- both in asphalt and mountain running. However, updates arrive when deemed necessary. That’s why I’m glad to see that Mizuno also saw “The Daichi 5 risk of becoming obsolete”.

MIZUNO WAVE DAICHI 6. DATA SHEET

Weight: 305gr A breakthrough. It involves cutting about 30-40 grams according to the previous one. Not especially light for the elite, but also not heavy in the face of a popular one, will it let us run many miles? We’ll see it while rolling them.
Drop: 10 mm. It lowers the heel height by 2mm at last. It remains a classic drop that it shares with other shoes of the brand. We now have 28mm to the ground in heel and 18mm in toe. Thus, we are quite glued to the ground, as in almost all of the Salomon range, but they maintain good cushioning heel to run long with them or if the technique loosens.
Michelin sole: Mizuno bets on Michelin rubber on trail. The Daichi 6 lugs are more separated than in the previous version, thus improving mud clearing and grip on softer terrain. They are short heels of 3-4mm, will allow us to travel at ease the firm terrains, not the softest. The sole width adds up to 0.5cm more than usual both front and back, (11cm front and 9mm rear) which together with the high drop compensates for technical errors in lateral support or excessive heel for running for many hours, although for high running rhythms it loses agility.
Wave Midsole: Goodbye to the wave rigid plate that Mizuno incorporated in all its models. It is replaced by a dual-density design that mimics Wave technology with a lower weight. For fans of Mizuno, uncharted territory to solve. For first-time arrivals, a lighter shoe that’s easier to try.
Upper: The Wave Daichi 6 features reinforcements along the sides to improve durability and impact protection, while maintaining the breathability and comfort of its predecessor. Always a very comfortable shoe, complete with a prominent tongue and classic cordonage.

MIZUNO WAVE DAICHI 6. CONCLUSION:

A very interesting update. Finally, aligns with his sisters Hayate 6 and Mujin 6 who compete in a healthy and current way in their respective segments. The Daichi can be both a basic initiation shoe that meets almost everything on firm ground, as well as a daily training shoe for medium rhythms. Also, a good companion for vertical races, half marathons and even alpine marathon of a popular.
