The  course must be completed in less than 150 hours, counting on over 43 refreshment points and among them 7 life bases, which allow full services to the runners, included a much needed place to sleep for the popular runner, while the elite get by on along three days hardly stoping for a nap at all.. The completion rate is about 60%. This X edition event includes 4 races, from the longest Tor des Glaciers with 450k to the classic Tor des Geants 357k, the 130k for Tot Dret and finally the Tor de Malatrá for 30k. The three ultras are now ongoing, while the last one will launch on the weekend.

TOR DE GEANTS RACE REPORT UPDATE.

Bosatelli, Trigueros and Papi largely leading.  TOT130 – Tot Dret Launched

.

TOT DRET WAS LAUNCHED LAST NIGHT: In 418 started, at 9 p.m. from the Gressoney Sports Hall, in Gressoney-Saint-Jean, for TOR130 – Tot Dret, the 130 km and 12.000 m D+ race that reached, this year, its third edition, third and penultimate competition of TOR X.
The athletes will run the last part of the route of TOR within a 44-hour time span, but the arrival of the winners is expected between 8 and 9 p.m. tomorrow, Wednesday 11: the record belongs to Marco Mangaretto who, last year, nearly ran under the 24 hours (24h01’07”), while the first edition was won by Cesare Clap. The women hall of fame sees the name of Francesca Pretto and Giuditta Turini.
There will only be one life base, in Oyace (71,80 km), and one time-barriers, apart from Courmayeur: Valtournenche, Oyace, Ollomont and Bosses.
Different athletes will run for victory: among them, Spanish Julio Cernuda Aldecoa, 48th at TOR 2016, Aosta Valley Giuliano Cavallo and Marco Bethaz, but also Gianfranco Saitta or Dino Melzani. For the women, a chance to get a prestige result is high for Marina Cugnetto and Antonella Manzoli.

.

TOR DES GEANTS 357K: Bosatelli flies to his last night. Trigueros leads women and makes top10 overall.. Tor des Géants is entering its crucial phase with the last breathtaking 60 km. It was supposed to be a head to head between Oliviero Bosatelli and Galen Reynolds, only one hour distant in Valtournenche. The turning point at Rifugio Magià, where both Reynolds and Romain Olivier stopped for a long time for physical problems, compromising their chances of victory. Bosatelli flies to his last night of race, which should lead him in Courmayeur before lunch. Behind them, more detached, Danilo Lantermino, who in the morning overcame both Sebastien Raichon and Gianluca Galeati. Still undisputed the leadership of Silvia Trigueros Garrote, in ninth position overall, more than two hours ahead Jocelyne Pauly and more than the double ahead Sonia Furtado.

.

TOR DES GLACIERS 450K: Leaders Luca Papi and Marina PLavan lengthen the advantage
Luca Papi has overlooked for a long time the Cervino from Plan Maison, 2.556 m, at km 333, to climb to Rifugio Duca Degli Abruzzi and descend to Fienstra di Cignana and climbing again to Rifugio Perucca Vuillermoz, accomplishing 20 more km. Marina Plavan watches Monte Rosa from Gressoney. They both lead largely.

TOR’S 10th ANNIVERSARY EDITION: HISTORY

History of Tor des Géants: TDG was born as a different experince, from its start in 2010. Around 2000 volunteers are used to organize the race. Due to the alpine condition of the course with a race summit at Col Loson ovr 3.300m weather is an additional obstacle to be very much counted upon, with temperatures dropping at some points below -10ºC.  As they travel,  competitors can encounter sun, rain, wind, and even snow. Over the years, mountain conditions have greatly influenced the race.

The inaugural edition was in 2010. The 2012 edition was interrupted on the fourth night and stopped on the fifth day at En Bosses (303 km). About 70 runners completed the whole course. The 2013 edition was marked by the death of the Chinese runner, Yang Yuan. He fell and he hit his head on rocks during the first rainy night of the race. There is a monument at the site of the accident. The cairn has inscribed a poem written by Yang Yuan. The 2015 edition was interrupted on the third night due to severe weather and stopped on the fourth night, because Col Malatra got covered by ice. Only six runners completed the whole distance. In 2016 local authorities organized a competing race 4K VK alleging concerns for runner’s safety and the costs. That race started and ended in Cogne and went clockwise (unlike Tor) but had no continuity ever since. From Tor 2017 onwards, where the current record of 67h52m was set by spaniard Javier Dominguez Ledo, the organizers have introduced a geolocation service via GPS system which displays full data in real time for each athlete.
