Kilian Jornet and Emelie Forsberg launched yesterday the short film “Testing Ourselves”. The film narrates the express acclimatization process as followed by them during their last expedition to the Himalayas, where both tried to climb the Cho Oyu together, before Kilian went on to face his Everest ascent. In addition to the scientific side, the documentary explores life as a couple in an alpine expedition. Meanwhile, the latest film from the Summits of My Life project, which will include the double Everest ascent, is still in production and is expected to be released in early 2018.

TESTING OURSELVES: SHORT FILM KILIAN JORNET AND EMELIE FORSBERG.

.
Is it possible to climb a summit of 8,000m in fifteen days? What acclimatization must be done and how does it affect the body? Those questions hovered around the heads of mountain athletes Kilian Jornet and Emelie Forsberg. To find the answer they embarked on a project to try to climb the Cho Oyu (8.220m) with a new method of acclimatization that can revolutionize mountaineering. The result of this experiment is “Testing Ourselves”, a seventeen minute documentary that is now available online in the social networks of both athletes.
.
Kilian Jornet and Emelie Forsberg traveled in May to the Himalayas to attempt the ascent of Cho Oyu. They chose that summit to check on the ground the true results of their new acclimatization methods. As Jornet explained: “Although in the end I did summit, for us it was not the most important thing. What interested us was seeing how we felt after an acclimatization totally different from what we had done so far. ” In addition to the experiences of Jornet and Forsberg, the documentary also has the presence of Dr. Daniel Brotons, specialist in mountain medicine, who will provide a scientific view of the expedition and the possibilities that this type of acclimation can represent for other athletes, different levels.

.

However, accrding to Kilian and Emelie, “Testing Ourselves” is not merely a scientific film, but also a human one. Throughout the documentary the story is narrated from a couple perspective on how they face a joint expedition. For the first time, both athlets explain what it means for them to do an expedition together, what risks it entails and what it brings back to them as a couple.

As of yesterday, the film can be enjoyed either on the athlete’s website or on their social networks. Click below to enjoy it right here with us. In addition to the video, Jornet and his medical team also share in it the express acclimatization protocol as followed for his expedition to the Himalayas.
